Thomas, brother of George and Andrew, was born in Newton Mearns in 1899, fifth son of Mr Andrew and Mrs Mary Hamilton. His father was a starch maker at the bleachfield and the family lived at Low Row  Netherplace, the site of the bleachworks. Thomas' father died in 1907.

In the 1911 census, Thomas was at school and living with his mother at 89 Netherplace, Newton Mearns.

When he enlisted in 1917, the family were living at Malletsheugh and Thomas was living at Craigton Farm, employed as a ploughman.

He was killed in France on  2 October 1918, aged 19 and is buried in Bellicourt British Cemetery, Aisne, France- Grave ref.VI. K. 2 and is also commemorated on  Mearns Parish Kirk War Memorial.
