George, brother of Thomas and Andrew, was born in Newton Mearns in 1893, the fourth son of Mr Andrew and Mrs Mary Hamilton. His father was a starch maker at the bleachfield and the family lived at Low Row Netherplace, the site of the bleachworks. George's father died in 1907.

In  the 1911 census  George was living with his mother at 89 Netherplace, Newton Mearns and was employed as a  bleacher.

He was killed in Belgium on 14 April 1918, aged 25. He is commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium - Panel 5 and also on Mearns Parish Kirk War Memorial.
