Adam was born in Barony Glasgow in 1896, son of Mr Adam and Mrs Janet Drysdale. The family moved to Newton Mearns and lived at Home Cottage, Main Street, Newton Mearns. His father's occupation was as a printer compositor. and when he enlisted in 1914, Adam was also employed as a compositor.

Adam was killed aged 19 on 27 September 1915 in France/Belgium during the Battle of Loos, and is commemorated on Loos Memorial,  Pas-de-Calais, France - Panel 125 to 127  and also on Newton Mearns Parish Church War Memorial.
