Robert was born in Edinburgh in 1880, son of Mr William and Mrs Jean Fergusson Pollok of Pollok Castle Newton Mearns.

Robert was a regular soldier. commissioned into the 32 Lancers on 20th January 1909.  He was killed at Al Basrah Basra 0n 24th April 1917, aged 37 and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, on the family grave in Dean Cemetery Edinburgh and also on Mearns Parish Kirk War Memorial.
